Reintegration is the adjustment and transition period that occurs immediately after our husband returns from a deployment. When it’s almost time for him to come home and it’s all starting to feel real, we often have some surprising feelings come up that we’re not sure what to do with if we don’t make a plan ahead of time. Some of the main negative feelings that come up as you anticipate reintegration is stress, worry, fear, and even dread. These feelings can exist simultaneously with our feelings of joy and excitement that they are coming home which adds to the confusion. When the negative emotions come up and catch many military wives off guard, we are tempted to judge those emotions, be embarrassed of them, think there is something wrong, think we are the only one who feels this way, and feel guilty/ashamed. Listen to this episode to get a better understanding of why this is happening and what you can do about it.
