Episode 74 – Victims and Villains

One way I define victim mentality is when we believe that our circumstances aren’t neutral. When we believe that our circumstances are the reason we feel the way we do and that things in the world are out to get us, then we are in victimhood. When there’s a victim, then there’s a villain.

In this episode, we take a look at what it means to indulge in victimhood. Sometimes we dip our toe into it, sometimes we visit and stay awhile, sometimes we get stuck there and don’t know how to get out. Whatever the case may be, when we feel like the victim we tend to feel powerless, helpless, and hopeless.

When you understand what software your lower brain is running on default (the software is titled “Something is wrong.”), it makes it easier to understand why, if we’re not careful, it can be so easy to feel like a victim. Often we don’t even realize we’re doing it.

The solution to this problem is to be the hero in your story. You do this by having your own back and taking great care of yourself, being vulnerable, giving people the benefit of the doubt (seeing them as the hero in their story), and letting go of thinking you know what other people should do. Enjoy!
